Serendip Feral Hive Removal 25 Feb 2017

A group of volunteers from Geelong Beekeepers Club helped John Webb remove feral hives from a shed at Serendip. Some volunteers went home with a brand new hive of bees! Well done for saving these bees.

Geelong Beekeepers Club Field Day

The Geelong Beekeepers Club is pleased to announce its inaugural Field Day to be held at Freshwater Creek Hall on Sunday 2nd April 2017. All welcome!

Young Beekeeper

Some of the activities include:

  • How to light and use a smokerHive Inspection
  • Hive opening, inspecting brood and frames, identifying disease, routine maintenance NOTE: Hive opening requires participants to wear protective clothing and gloves
  • Ask a Beekeeper
  • Presentations on hive health and disease identification
  • Honey extraction and filtering
  • Assemble frames and embed wax
  • Local flora identification walk, weather permitting
  • Honey tastings
  • Children’s activities
  • Sales of beekeeping-related goods

Venue: Freshwater Creek Hall, 445 Dickins Road, Freshwater Creek.  Melways reference: Page 15 A18

Date/Time: Sunday 2 April 2017 from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm. There will be a draw of lucky entry tickets at 3.00 pm.

Catering:  Refreshments available throughout the day including Barbecue lunch or BYO picnic

Cost: $10.00 per person, children under 18 free
